The objective of this study is to highlight what really happens during the selection of Algerian U-18 players at the club level, and thus to focus on the methods used here in relation to Requirements of modern football that rely exclusively on spécial programs and scientific data that are more effective than random intuitions. The questionable results of the young national teams and the clubs during the major competitions or on the continental scene demonstrate a defect in the Algerian football organization and more specifically in the training process.
In conducting this study, we would like to demonstrate the importance of this stage, which remains neglected here but is applied at the U18 level in the more advanced countries in this sport, a step that includes the use of morpho- functional determinants for selection Of the best éléments according to the game compartments.
We carried out a descriptive study by distributing questionnaires to a few coaches of the young catégories in western Algeria as a sample and the results tend to show that most of them rely on their intuition to make their choice, Use various scientific methods such as measurements, tests and debriefings of matches.
The results of This study actively advocate strengthening our U 18 selection method with observations, the use of morphological measurements and other functional tests to be used to select players according to the requirements of the game plans and So choose the most talented who will bring a plus to the Algerian football of tomorrow.
