Abstract

This study aims at the analysis of the body composition and the somatotype of elite athletes (judo, volleyball, basketball) as criteria for selection and orientation of sportsmen. A descriptive survey on a sample of Athlèes elites deliberately selected. The
Anthropometric kit was used to measure anthropometric indices. In addition, the statistical analysis through the Mateika equation and the Heath and Carterà method was exploited to calculate the body composition and somatotype of the
elite athletes. One of the major findings of this study is the statistical differences in body composition and somatotype between the research sample. The recommendations call for the need to use published research in the field of
sports selection as a starting point and a scientific basis in the selection and orientation of athletes of different disciplines
