Abstract

This study examines media literacy as a mechanism to counter fake news on social networks by focusing on selection, critical thinking, and analytical skills as essential tools that enable social network users to distinguish between true and fake news. Fake news often leads to the falsification and manipulation of facts. Developing these skills among social network users is a crucial step in combating the spread of fake news, which has been amplified by the uncontrolled nature of these platforms. The study concludes by proposing a practical model to tackle fake news on social networks through the enhancement of media literacy skills. This model enables users to identify the sources of news, analyze and critique it, and share it responsibly, thus reducing misinformation and the distortion of facts.
