الملخص

This study examines cancel culture as a punitive communicative system within the digital sphere, focusing on the analysis of its operational mechanisms, the role of digital platforms and algorithms, and its resulting sociological effects.

The research adopts a descriptive–analytical approach based on a critical review of contemporary literature and interpretive analysis of digital practices.

The findings indicate that cancel culture goes beyond traditional criticism to constitute a coherent communicative system grounded in collective shaming, stigmatization, content recirculation, enforced silence, and symbolic exclusion.

Moreover, digital platforms and algorithms emerge as structural social actors that intensify the dissemination of punishment and convert temporary condemnation into durable digital stigma, directly affecting individuals’ symbolic capital, digital social interaction, and public trust.

The study concludes that cancel culture reflects a profound shift in the distribution of digital power and social surveillance, underscoring the need for academic and societal awareness to mitigate its negative consequences and promote responsible digital communication
