This study aims to determine the prevalence of internet addiction among young people in Algeria and the effects of this phenomenon on their social relationships. As the Internet has grown in importance among young people in Algeria, their patterns of social interaction with their families, relatives, and the rest of their social environment are likely to change.
The results of the field study revealed new social interaction patterns among young people that depend on digital and electronic spaces and media. This had a negative impact on traditional communication patterns, but also opened up new possibilities for social relationships, especially with immigrants and their relatives.
