This study sought to explore the ethics of using artificial intelligence (AI) in scientific research by analyzing models from Arab and international ethical charters. It addressed the question of whether existing ethical frameworks are sufficient to regulate AI practices when employed as a research tool. Employing a critical analytical methodology, the researcher reviewed relevant literature and charters, focusing on key ethical challenges tied to AI in research and outlining core principles from select Arab and international charters.
The study concluded that most charters emphasize general AI ethics without adequate specialization for research applications, underscoring the necessity for clear, binding guidelines and adapting university charters to current demands. It also stressed the pivotal role of researchers’ self-ethical regulation as a cornerstone for preserving scientific integrity
