Media Framing and the Construction of African Political Narratives: A Qualitative Analysis of Algerian International News Coverage (AL24 NEWS)

Abstract

This article examines how African political issues are framed in Algerian international news media, using media framing theory as an analytical lens to understand meaning construction and narrative building. Adopting a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach, the study relies on qualitative content analysis of selected news bulletins and analytical programs broadcast by AL24 NEWS, with the aim of identifying dominant frames and their discursive functions.

The findings reveal a complex framing structure in which conventional frames, such as conflict and responsibility, intersect with sovereignty-oriented and value-based frames, including sovereignty, regional cooperation, and African solidarity. The study concludes that Algerian international media contributes, to varying degrees, to the construction of an alternative African political narrative that challenges dominant Western representations, while still reflecting certain shared global media logics
